Parents will actively interact with their child in the water where the instructor will guide them in developing water-positive attitudes and skills. Activities and progressions are based on child development, so parents register in the level appropriate for their child's age.
Parent & Tot (4-12 Months) - safe entries and exits, readiness for submission, parent supports/holds, floats and splashing
Parent & Tot 2 (12-23 Months) - Child assisted entries and exits, face in the water, PFD's, assisted floats, surface pass (readiness for underwater pass)
Parent & Tot 3 (2-3 years) - Unassisted entries and exits, jumps, underwater activities, floats and kicking (assisted), underwater passes
Children 3-5 years will progress through a five level program where they become comfortable in the water and have fun developing a foundation of water skills and Water Smart behaviours.
Preschool 1 - Entries and Exits (shallow water), face in the water, front and back floats (assisted), front and back glides (assisted)
Preschool 2 - Entries and Exits with a PFD (Chest Deep Water), submersion/breathing, floats with a PFD, glides with a PFD, flutter kick
Preschool 3 - Jumps with a PFD in deep water, rhythmic breathing, recover object deep water, floats (unassisted), roll-over floats, glides 3M (unassisted), flutter kick on front/back 5M
Preschool 4 - Sideways entry, tread water 10 seconds with PFD, front float roll to back swim 5M, slide glide 3M, flutter kick 7M, front crawl 5M with PFD
Preschool 5 - Forward roll entry, tread water 10 seconds, whip kick vertical position, front crawl 5M. Back crawl 5M, interval fitness training
Children 5-12 years build from basic swim skills to strong independent and safe swimmers. Lots of in-water practice develops solid swimming strokes and skills along with targeted Water Smart behaviours
Swimmer 1 - Shallow water entries/exits, jumps with PFD, tread water 30 seconds with PFD, floats, roll-over floats, glides front and back 3M, whip kick in vertical position, front crawl 5M with PFD, swim with a buddy
Swimmer 2 - Jump return to wall, side entry with PFD, tread water 15 seconds, recover object chest deep water, Swim to Survive skill, flutter kick 10M on front/back/side, front crawl/back crawl 10M, interval fitness training, ice safety
Swimmer 3 - Kneeling dives, tread water 1 min, swim underwater 5M, Swim to Survive, whip kick on front 15M, breaststroke arms drill 15M, front/back crawl 25M, interval fitness training/sprints, Water Smart

Our pool is set to a comfortable temperature of 84 degrees with a depth ranging from 3 ft to 8 ft (1m - 2.5m) and length of 60 ft (18m).
Flutter boards, noodles and children's PFDs are available as well as a few toys for our younger age group.
We do ask that all participants shower prior to entering the pool area, as well as wearing bathing attire (bathing suit or designated clothing for pool use only).
No street clothing is permitted in the pool.
Children 5 years and under: Must be accompanied in the water within arms reach of an adult (16+). Maximum 2 children per adult (16+)
Children 6+ years: Unable to pass the Deep End Test. Must remain in shallow water at all times. If Lifeguard deems necessary, they may be required to wear a lifejacket while in the shallow end (except during Family Swim, in which child must be accompanied by adult 16+).
Children 6+ years: Able to pass the Deep End Test. May enter the pool unaccompanied and swim in both shallow and deep areas of the pool (except during Family Swim, in which adult supervision is required).
Deep End Test: Lifeguard on duty will administer the test which consists of 2 widths of front crawl and 2 widths of back crawl followed by 1 minute of treading water. Record of children passing the test will be maintained at the pool. It is the discretion of the Lifeguard that all swimmers are safe and may request your child to retake the Deep End Test and/or remain the shallow end or wear a lifejacket.
